Volunteer Opportunity

This is a good opportunity for warm and caring individuals interested in serving elders through companionship and friendship. Many of our volunteers are elderly themselves. Some are involved in the City of Boston Volunteer Program that provides stipends to older volunteers who meet income guidelines. Volunteers who qualify for stipend must serve 18-20 hours per week. There is no minimum number of hours for those not receiving a stipend. Modest reimbursement are provided for lunch and public transportation.

Volunteers assist elder clients through Friendly Visiting, Medical Escort, Small Item Shopping, and Telephone Reassurance. Volunteers are available on a regular basis or as needed and are requested to make a six-month to one-year commitment when signing up for the program.

Volunteer orientation and in-service training sessions are conducted on a regular basis. Fellowship exists both among the volunteers and between volunteers and clients they serve.
