Care Manager (Intern)

POSITION: Care Manager (Intern)

DEPARTMENT: Administration/HR

DESIGNATION: Non-Union, Non-Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Do you have a passion for working with elders and/or people with disabilities and are looking to earn $20 per hour for a credit or noncredit internship? Are you looking for an internship to transition into full-time employment? Central Boston Elder Services provides you with these opportunities.

The intern will be assigned tasks set forth by the designated department which would include one of the following: Home Care, Specials Programs, Protective Services, and/or CBES Administration.

Under the direction of the Manager, she/he will be responsible for completing tasks directly aligned with CBES’s mission to provide services to the elders and disabled individuals within our service area. The intern will assist staff with general duties, including, but not limited to, research, data collection/entry, coordinating reports, and making consumer-related phone calls.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Successfully complete the Agency’s direct care training curriculum designed by the Training Manager.

2. Attend and participate in agency and departmental meetings and training courses as assigned.

3. Assist in managing the flow of paperwork.

4. Shadow CBES staff on home visits and or external meetings with follow up to consumer regarding the program and input consumer information into database.

5. Create reports as instructed by the Manager.

6. When instructed, assist consumers with navigating and accessing services and/programs.

7. Perform duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including reading and writing.

· Ability to respond professionally and with empathy when communicating with elders and communicate in a manner appropriate and respectful to the comprehension level of the consumer and /or family.

· Exhibit interpersonal flexibility, initiative and teamwork.

· Solid organizational skills combined with the ability to follow instructions and complete tasks on time.

· Proficiency in Microsoft and the ability to learn and use computer systems in various environments (mobile phone, desktop, tablet).

· Maintain consumers’ rights, privacy and confidentiality in all aspects of the job, including those relating to diagnosis and consumer records.

· Promote and employ ethical actions with consumers, families and others.

· Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.

· Ensure adherence to CBES (Central Boston Elder Service) policies and procedures in addition to program-related operations.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

· College students enrolled in an accredited educational institution.

· Prior experience with elders and/or disabled preferred.
